You talk about bring it, these guys bring it. You want a
seriously fun, high intensity show, these guys got it. These guys, are
Islander. The nu metal band from
Greenville, South Carolina have been making waves in the scene recently and
have been involved in some very prominent tours and festivals over the past
couple years. Festivals such as the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival in 2014, as
well as the 2015 Welcome To Rockville, Carolina Rebellion, and Rock On The
Range festivals. They have also had recent tours with Papa Roach, Seether, and
Red.
The band is comprised of four members, who also happen to be four really great guys, lead singer Mikey Carvajal, lead guitarist J.R. Bareis (also Love And Death), bassist Chris Doot, and drummer Eric Frazier. I was fortunate enough to have spent some time working with the band for a few nights on their recent tour. They are full of personality, are driven, and are overall very cool, down to earth guys. The band signed with Victory Records in 2011 and have released the EP “Pains” (2013) and studio album Violence and Destuction (2014). Islander puts on a high energy and passionate show. Singer Mikey Carvajal never seems to stop moving as he head bangs, jumps, and rolls across the stage. He even tends to end up in the crowd, well, on the crowd, as he is supported by fans holding his feet. He virtually walks across the crowd while singing. Guitarist J.R. Bareis spinning and whipping his guitar over his shoulder and around his back only to catch it again as it comes around, never missing a note in the process. Just re-living it while I write gets me amped up!
Islander is set to hit the road on an upcoming tour with 10 Years and Starset in late May, followed by a tour with P.O.D. and From Ashes To New, with Hoobastank appearing on select dates. Islander seems poised to take the scene by storm and are well on their way to doing so. These guys are a treat and when they come to your town you won’t want to miss them!
Setlist:
Counteract
The Sadness Of Graves
Cold Speak
Lucky Rabbit
New Wave
Criminals
Pains
Coconut Dracula
