Glass Animals’ “Heat Waves” continues to be the biggest song in the world this week, as it remains #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart for the fourth week in a row, the longest-leading #1 song by a British group in over 25 years, since Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” in 1997 – and its reign is now among the top 10 longest ever for songs by British groups (see full list below). “Heat Waves” holds #1 on Billboard’s Radio Songs Chart and Global Excl. U.S. Chart for the third week in a row.
In addition, the song has broken the record for the most weeks at #1 for a song by a group on the Billboard 200 Global Chart, leading for five weeks in a row.
This adds to the band’s numerous #1’s, including, Top 40 Radio Chart, Alternative Radio Chart & Hot AC Radio Chart (a first in the band’s career), Billboard Hot Rock & Alternative Songs Chart, Apple Music Alternative Top Songs Chart, Spotify’s Global 50 chart (for 61 days) and more (see full list below).
The song has broken numerous records and maintained its longevity through numerous platforms and support from fans and channels across the industry.
In addition to Glass Animals’ recent success, frontman Dave Bayley co-wrote and co-produced Florence + The Machine’s newest single “My Love”, adding to his already impressive list of collaborations with other artists.

“Heat Waves” is the first song by a British group to have topped the Hot 100 for four weeks in just over 25 years, since Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” in 1997.
“Heat Waves” has broken the record for the most weeks at #1 for a song by a group on the Billboard 200 Global Chart (leading for 5 weeks in a row).
“Heat Waves” hits #1 after 59 weeks on the Hot 100 Chart (and has now led for four weeks in a row) - breaking the previous 35-week record set by Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” in December 2019.
“Heat Waves” is the first song to have hit #1 on both Hot 100 and Alternative Airplay since Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy” in 2019. It is 1 of only 10 songs ever to top both the Hot 100 and Alternative Airplay Chart in the 33 years that the charts have co-existed.
“Heat Waves” is the 15th Alternative Airplay #1 to have led the all-genre Radio Songs Chart over the 31 years that the charts have coexisted, a feat that just 4% of all Alternative Airplay leaders have achieved.
“Heat Waves,” written and produced by Dave Bayley, has made Glass Animals the first group to hit #1 on Hot 100 with a song solely written and produced by one of its members since Boston’s “Amanda” in 1986, written and produced by Tom Scholz. The song is the first #1 on the Top 40 Chart written by one writer since Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect”.
“Heat Waves” is one of only 16 titles to have ever spent 62 or more weeks on the Hot 100 overall, regardless of peak position - out of around 30,000 entries in the chart’s archives.
“Heat Waves” is the first song to debut at 100 on Hot 100 and climb to #1 on the chart since “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa feat. Charlie Puth in 2015.
Glass Animals is the only British alternative band unaccompanied by another act to hit #1 on Global 200 Chart.
“Heat Waves” is the first Hot 100 #1 from a British group unaccompanied by another act since Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida” in 2008.

“Heat Waves” is the first song with the word “Heat” in its title to hit #1 on Hot 100. Mims previously had the word “Hot” in the #1 “This is Why I’m Hot” in 2007.
